1. Acceptance of these terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and AI APP Developer, LLC, a Minnesota limited liability company (“we”, “us”), the publisher of MAAK Self-Employed Exp Tracker (the “Service”). By creating an account, or by using the Service in any way, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Our Privacy Policy is part of these Terms and explains what we collect and why.
2. What the Service is
MAAK Self-Employed Exp Tracker is bookkeeping and record-keeping software for self-employed people in the United States. It:
- imports transactions from bank and credit-card accounts you connect through Plaid, or from statement files you upload;
- separates business from personal spending using classification rules you can read, edit and override;
- reads receipts you photograph and matches them to transactions;
- records mileage, vehicles and depreciable assets;
- and arranges the result into a Profit & Loss statement and a worksheet that follows the structure of IRS Schedule C (Form 1040), exportable as Excel, PDF or CSV.
The Service does not move money. It has no ability to make a payment, transfer funds, pay a bill or initiate any transaction on any account. Account access is read-only.
3. Not tax, legal or financial advice
Read this section. It is the most important one here.
MAAK Self-Employed Exp Tracker is bookkeeping and record-keeping software published by AI APP Developer, LLC.
Not tax, legal or financial advice
AI APP Developer, LLC is not a certified public accountant, enrolled agent, tax attorney, tax return preparer or financial advisor, and no part of this software constitutes tax, legal, accounting or financial advice. Using the Service does not create a professional relationship of any kind.
What the software does
It imports transactions from accounts you connect, applies classification rules you control, and arranges the results into a Profit & Loss statement and a worksheet that follows the structure of IRS Schedule C (Form 1040). The output is a summary of your own data. It is not a filed return, it is not reviewed by a tax professional, and it is not submitted to any tax authority. It is not an IRS form.
Accuracy is your responsibility
The figures depend on which accounts you connect, how transactions are classified, and the information you enter. Automatic categorization is an aid and will sometimes be wrong. Tax law, IRS rates, limits and forms change; figures such as mileage rates, Social Security wage bases, Section 179 limits and depreciation tables are supplied for convenience and must be verified against current IRS publications. You are responsible for reviewing every figure and for the accuracy of anything you file.
Consult a professional
Before filing a tax return, making an estimated tax payment, or acting on any figure produced by the Service, consult a qualified tax professional who can consider your full circumstances.
Estimates are estimates
Self-employment tax figures, depreciation schedules and home-office amounts shown in the Service are informational estimates that do not account for facts the software cannot see — other income, a spouse's income, your filing status, credits, or the additional Medicare tax. Your actual liability is computed on your return.
Bank data
Account connections are provided by Plaid Inc. under Plaid's own privacy policy and end-user agreement. Your bank credentials are entered with Plaid and are never received or stored by MAAK Self-Employed Exp Tracker.
4. Accounts and eligibility
- You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract.
- The Service is offered for use in the United States, and its features assume a US federal tax return. We make no claim that it is appropriate or available anywhere else, and you are responsible for compliance with your local law if you use it from outside the US.
- You must give accurate registration information and keep it current.
- You are responsible for your credentials and for everything done through your account. Use a password you do not use elsewhere, and tell us at support@aiappdeveloper.net straight away if you think someone else has access.
- One person or business per account, except on the Firm plan, whose seat limit governs how many people may use it. Do not share a login.
- Repeated failed sign-in attempts will lock the account until it is recovered.
5. Plans, billing, renewal and refunds
| Plan | Price | Connected accounts | Receipt image retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 1 account, CSV/OFX import only — no bank connection | — |
| Solo | $9.99/month or $89/year | 3 | 4 years |
| Pro | $19.99/month or $179/year | 10 | 7 years |
| Firm | $79/month | 50 | 7 years |
Transaction records and reports are retained for 7 years on every paid plan. Fixed-asset records are kept until three years after you dispose of the asset.
The Free plan shows a single banner advertisement. It is non-personalized, never appears on the Schedule C or billing screens, and is never a full-screen interstitial. Any paid plan removes it.
Auto-renewal
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period — monthly or annual, whichever you chose — at the then-current price, until you cancel. Cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for, and you keep access until then.
Where you bought it decides how you cancel
- Bought on our website — payment is processed by Stripe. Manage or cancel from the billing screen in the app.
- Bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play — the purchase is made with Apple or Google, not with us. You must cancel through your Apple ID or Google Play subscription settings; cancelling in our app will not stop a store subscription. Deleting the app does not cancel it either.
Refunds
Purchases made through the App Store or Google Play are governed by those stores' own refund policies, and refunds for them must be requested from Apple or Google. We cannot issue them.
For subscriptions purchased directly from us, fees are non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise, but we are reasonable people: if something went wrong, or you were charged for a renewal you plainly did not intend and have not used, write to support@aiappdeveloper.net and we will look at it. We may issue a refund or credit at our discretion; doing so once does not oblige us to do it again.
Price and plan changes
We may change prices or plan limits. For an existing subscriber, a price increase takes effect at the next renewal and we will tell you at least 30 days before it does, so you can cancel first.
Taxes and failed payments
Prices are in US dollars and exclude any sales or use tax, which is added where applicable. If a payment fails we may suspend paid features after notifying you. Your data is not deleted on non-payment; it remains subject to section 12 and to the retention periods in the Privacy Policy.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- connect an account you are not authorized to access, or upload records that are not yours to upload;
- use the Service to prepare a false or fraudulent return, to conceal income, or to support any unlawful purpose;
- attempt to reach another customer's data, probe or breach our security, or bypass plan limits, rate limits or authentication;
- scrape, resell, sublicense or white-label the Service, or offer it as your own product, except as the Firm plan expressly allows a bookkeeper to serve their own clients;
- reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to derive source code, except to the extent that restriction is unenforceable where you live;
- upload malware, or content that infringes anyone's rights;
- run automated processes that place an unreasonable load on the Service, or that run up third-party costs — for example a loop that submits receipts for scanning.
We may suspend an account immediately, without notice, where we reasonably believe it is being used in a way that breaks this section and that continued use would harm us, another customer, or a third party.
7. Third-party services
The Service depends on providers who have their own agreements with you, and their terms apply in addition to these:
- Plaid Inc. provides bank connectivity. When you open Plaid Link you accept Plaid's end-user services agreement and privacy policy, published at plaid.com/legal. Plaid handles your bank authentication; we never see your bank credentials.
- Stripe, Inc. processes card payments made on our website. Your card details go to Stripe, not to us, and are subject to Stripe's terms.
- Apple and Google distribute the mobile apps and, if you buy there, handle the purchase under their own terms.
- An AI vision provider extracts text from receipts you upload, under an agreement that forbids the provider from training on your content.
We are not responsible for a third party's acts, omissions, outages, pricing or policy changes. Bank data may be unavailable, delayed or incomplete for reasons entirely outside our control — an institution changing its systems, a connection needing re-authorization, or an aggregator's limits on how far back history reaches. Plaid's transaction history is limited by what each institution returns; older years may need to be imported from statement files.
8. Your data, and our intellectual property
Your content stays yours. Transactions, receipts, descriptions, rules, mileage, asset records and reports you create are yours. You grant us only the limited, non-exclusive licence we need to host, process, back up, transmit and display them so the Service can work for you, and to send a receipt image to our vision provider for extraction. That licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies in encrypted backups that cycle out as described in the Privacy Policy.
We do not use your financial data to train artificial-intelligence models, and we do not sell it.
Our property stays ours. The Service, its software, design, classification logic, chart of accounts, and the MAAK Self-Employed Exp Tracker and AI APP Developer names are owned by us and protected by intellectual property law. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service under these Terms. Nothing else is granted.
Feedback. If you send us a suggestion, we may use it freely and without obligation to you. We will never publish your financial data as an example.
9. Accuracy is your responsibility
This repeats section 3 because it is the point of the whole agreement.
You are responsible for reviewing every transaction the Service classifies, every figure it computes and every report it produces, and for correcting anything that is wrong before you rely on it. The Service marks entries it is not confident about and puts them in a review queue; an unreviewed queue is not an accurate set of books. You are responsible for whatever you file, and for any tax, interest or penalty arising from it.
10. No warranty
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free; that bank data will be complete, timely or accurate; that automatic classification will be correct; or that any figure it produces will match what a tax professional or a tax authority would conclude. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, AI APP Developer, LLC is not liable for any tax, penalty, interest, loss or damage arising from your use of the Service, including from errors in classification, calculation or data import, or from bank data that is unavailable, incomplete or delayed.
We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, lost goodwill or business interruption, whether in contract, tort or any other theory, and whether or not we were told such damages were possible.
Our total liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) one hundred US dollars (US$100).
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
12. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless AI APP Developer, LLC and its owners, employees and contractors from any claim, demand, loss, liability or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use of the Service, your content, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law or of any third party's rights — including any claim relating to a tax return you filed. We will tell you promptly of any such claim and will not settle it in a way that imposes an obligation on you without your consent.
13. Termination
You may stop at any time. Cancel your subscription from the billing screen, or from your Apple or Google subscription settings if you bought it there. Delete your account from Settings → Delete account, or by emailing support@aiappdeveloper.net.
Export first. Deleting your account removes your transactions, receipts, reports, rules, mileage and asset records from our live systems within 30 days and revokes every bank connection. That is not reversible. Download your Excel, PDF or CSV exports before you do it.
We may suspend or terminate an account for a material breach of these Terms, for non-payment after notice, or where we are required to by law. Except where the breach makes notice impossible or imprudent, we will tell you first and give you a reasonable chance to export your data. If we discontinue the Service entirely, we will give at least 30 days' notice and refund the unused portion of any prepaid period.
Sections 3, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14 and 16 survive termination.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. You and we agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Minnesota for any dispute that is not resolved informally, and each of us waives any objection to venue there.
Talk to us first. Before filing anything, email support@aiappdeveloper.net with a description of the problem and what you want. Most things are fixable in a week by a person reading an email.
Nothing here prevents either of us from bringing a claim in small-claims court, or from seeking injunctive relief to protect intellectual property or data security.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the product and the law change. The “Last updated” date at the top always reflects the current version. For a material change we will give notice by email or in the app at least 30 days before it takes effect, so you can cancel if you do not accept it. Continuing to use the Service after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms.
16. General
- Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about the Service and replace anything said before.
- Severability. If a provision is unenforceable, the rest stays in force and the unenforceable part is narrowed to the minimum extent needed.
- No waiver. Not enforcing something once does not waive it.
- Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our written consent. We may assign them to a successor in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, on notice to you.
- Force majeure. Neither party is liable for a failure caused by events beyond its reasonable control.
- No third-party beneficiaries, except that Apple and Google are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms as they apply to an app obtained from their store, and may enforce them.
